title: Common issues description: Quick fixes for the issues most users hit during setup and on-set use. quickAnswer: "Most setup issues are one of three things: TX and RX aren't paired (re-pair via the RX menu), the marker channel isn't reaching the editor (check audio routing), or the units have run out of charge (check the LED — solid red means charge soon)." date: 2026-05-10 updated: 2026-05-10 faq:
- question: My TX press isn't producing a spike. What's wrong? answer: Check three things in order. (1) Is the TX paired? Tap its pair button — if the LED doesn't briefly flash green, re-pair via the RX menu. (2) Is the RX cable seated? Pull and reseat the 3.5mm TRS at both ends. (3) Is the TX battery low? A solid red LED means charge needed.
- question: I see no waveform spikes in my editor. answer: The RX output channel may not be reaching the recording. Verify the camera or recorder is actually receiving audio on the channel the RX is connected to (test: tap the RX scratch mic — that audio should show on the same channel). Check that the editor is showing a waveform view and not a peak-meter view.
- question: The marker tone is audible in my final cut. answer: You delivered without muting the marker channel. The marker tone lives on its own audio channel; mute that channel on export. Most setups isolate it on channel 2 of a stereo pair and deliver only channel 1.
- question: TX won't power on. answer: Charge it for 10 minutes via USB-C and retry. If the LED never illuminates during charging, try a different USB-C cable — the most common cause is a charge-only cable that doesn't carry power reliably.
- question: RX OLED screen is blank. answer: Hold the marker button on the RX for ~2 seconds. If still blank, plug in USB-C; the screen should illuminate within a second of receiving power.
Most issues fall into one of these categories. If yours doesn't, email us and we'll add it to this list.
Pairing problems
If a TX button press isn't producing a spike, the most common cause is a lost pair. Re-pair via the RX menu:
- On the RX, navigate to Settings → Pair.
- Choose the TX slot (1–4) you want to pair.
- On the TX, hold the pair button until the LED flashes blue.
- The RX confirms with a solid green LED on the corresponding channel.
For deeper pairing issues see Pairing problems.
Audio routing
The marker tone lives on the RX's 3.5mm TRS output. If your camera or recorder isn't capturing the channel the RX is plugged into, you won't see spikes.
- Confirm the cable is seated at both ends.
- Confirm the recording device is set to capture audio from the input the RX is on (some cameras default to internal mic only).
- Verify by tapping the RX's scratch microphone — that audio should show in the waveform.
Battery
Both units have a lithium-ion battery good for 12+ hours of active use. A solid red LED means charge needed; charging via USB-C takes ~2 hours from empty.
The self-latching power circuit means a unit that's been off for weeks should still have full charge when powered on. If a unit doesn't power on at all, charge for 10 minutes first — sometimes a deeply-drained battery needs a moment before the LED responds.
Editor sees no waveform
If the audio reached the recording but doesn't show as a waveform in your editor, check:
- The track is in waveform display mode (not peak meters or thumbnails-only).
- The track height is large enough — collapsed tracks hide the waveform.
- The clip is on the correct track type (audio, not video-only).
